Great Backyard Bird Count
Saturday, February 18th, 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Join us at the Nature Preserve in counting birds, learn the basics of birding, and take an easy hike! The Louisville Audubon Society is sponsoring an event at Creasey Mahan Nature Preserve in Goshen on Saturday, Feb. 18th, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. At 10:30a.m., the program leader, Ryan Ankeny, will show slides of commonly seen birds, and then lead a bird count and walk along the Louisville Audubon Society’s Bluebird Trail and near native grasslands and forested areas. Bring your binoculars and layered clothes. Crafts for kids will be available. Free ($5 donations encouraged).

Anyone can take part in the Great Backyard Bird Count, from novice bird watchers to experts. Participants count birds for as little as 15 minutes (or as long as they wish) on one or more days of the event and report their sightings online at the GBBC web site: www.birdcount.org.
Towering Trees Open House Saturday

Learn about tree identification and tree care with Robert Rollins of Greenhaven Tree Care. Bring your questions on pruning and storm damage, or the best native trees for this area. When you hire a certified arborist you are taking an active role in improving, enhancing and protecting one of the most valuable aspects of your home - your trees.
Spring Wildflowers Open House Saturday
Saturday, April 21, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Take an 11 a.m. walk with Tavia Cathcart, Executive Director of the Nature Preserve, and co-author of Wildflowers of Tennessee, the Ohio Valley and the Southern Appalacians, to rejoice in spring's prettiest wildflowers. Tavia will share the folklore and medicinal uses of our native plants. There will be free crafts for kids throughout the day at the Nature Center.

Slithering Snakes Open House Saturday

By popular demand, Jamie Cook, a Kentucky Dept. of Fish and Wildlife Resources Conservation Educator, returns with both native and non-local reptiles from Salato Wildlife Education Center. Kentucky is home to 32 species of snakes - and only 4 are venomous. Do you know which ones? Jamie will present programs at 11:00 and 12:15. Fun crafts for kids!
Raptors! Open House Saturday

Don't miss this exceptional Open House Saturday featuring live owls and hawks in the Nature Center. Raptor Rehabilitation of Kentucky, Inc. will bring some of their ravishing raptors to explain why they are important to our world. Bring your camera!
Pet Day!! and Butterflies Open House Saturday
August 18, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Co-hosted by the Goshen Animal Clinic. Pet Adoptions available, pet-friendly booths,and lunch treats. Please bring friends and family members to adopt a wonderful new member of your family! Visitors, their pets and four-legged friends are invited (on leash and bring scooper bags, please!)
The entire family can learn about butterflies on the same day from Corinne Mastey, butterfly expert! You can view them up close in our butterfly tent. Every butterfly will be collected on the Preserve and released without harm.
Bugs Behaving Badly
Open House Saturday

Join us for a new topic - what to do when bugs in your yard. Is pesticide the only answer when bugs are behaving badly? Are there benefical bugs? Blair Leono of Entomology Solutions, LLC, will explain how bugs can be the answer to your bug problems, and she will bring some live insects for you to see up close.
Halloween Harvest Party

On the 6th of October, 2012, Creasey Mahan Nature Preserve will transform into the Halloween Harvest Party destination of the year! This exciting party event will feature haunted trails, tricks and treats, activities, and spooky stations for the entire family. Fun for all will be hayrides, bouncies, treat stations, and face-painting (admission ticket not required)!
Nature of Christmas in Goshen

There's no better way to get in the holiday spirit than to bring the entire family to this event! Enjoy free chili and hot chocolate, a visit with Santa & Mrs. Claus, presents for the first 250 kids, live Christmas carolers, a bon fire, wagon rides, and gift booths.
